Prime Minister’s Apology to the Stolen Generations, 13th February 2008

The Prime Minister’s apology to the Stolen Generations was a major historical moment and a hoped for turning point for Indigenous communities. The State Library of Western Australia is keen to capture the significance to West Australian’s of this historic moment.

The Prime Minister’s Apology in Canberra, on the first full sitting day of the new Parliament, fulfilled the newly elected Labor Government’s election promise to say sorry to members of Stolen Generation. This apology came 10 years after the landmark ‘Bringing Them Home’ report made a key recommendation on the importance of saying sorry.
