The Department of Health is responsible for the provision of an efficient health service throughout the state. It administers those public hospitals which are directly controlled by the Minister under the Hospitals Act and monitors the activities of boards of management of hospitals appointed under that Act. The Department is also responsible for the care, control and services relating to the mentally ill. After checking with the State Records Office and hospitals for patient records it would also be advisable to contact the Health Department to see if additional records are held.
