2008 SLWA Graduate ProgramWould you like a career in the State Library of WA?
As part of the State Library of WA’s (SLWA) leadership role for the Library profession, the SLWA Graduate Program has been developed as an opportunity for graduates to participate in a structured, developmental program consisting of work placements plus training and development opportunities.

The Graduate Program offers Librarian and Library Technician graduates a twelve-month program and several full-time positions are offered for the 2008 program. This year we hope to appoint at least one graduate with either an interest in History or ICT.

About us
The State Library of Western Australia seeks to enrich the lives of Western Australians by enabling access to resources for information, learning, enterprise and recreation; and collecting and preserving our social and documentary heritage for current and future generations.

Outline of program
As a Graduate Librarian or Graduate Library Technician, you will experience many aspects of services and operations of the State Library. You will spend time in both the Client Services' and Resource Services' Directorates work areas as well as have the opportunity for an external placement.

As all positions require specific physical capabilities, your appointment will be subject to a satisfactory pre-employment medical and physical screening (cost covered by the State Library).

Conditions of employment
Graduates are employed on a fixed term contract for 12 months under the Public Service General Agreement at level 2 year 1 ($42 017).

Following successful completion of the Graduate Program, permanent employment may be offered depending on operational requirements.

More details on applying for the 2008 Graduate Program will be available on www.jobs.wa.gov.au and WAIN during September 2007.

On receipt of your application the Library will then assess your suitability for the 2008 Graduate program. The Library may conduct interviews, referee checks and/or other forms of selection after the receipt of applications. Placement to the program will be based on the Library selecting a diverse range of graduates whose specific interest field (including any within the field of ICT or History) can be supported.

Job offers
It is anticipated that offers for Graduate Employment with the State Library of WA will be made in late November / early December 2007 with Graduates commencing employment on 14th January 2008.
