Do we have any of your money ? : Statement of Unclaimed Moneys under the Banking Act 1959.
This publication contains details of amounts of $500 or more which banks, credit unions or building societies have paid to the Commonwealth Government as unclaimed moneys in accordance with section 69 of the Banking Act 1959. This publication covers the years 1990 - 2000.

Australian Investment and Securities Commission (ASIC)
Internet based information of Unclaimed Money from banks, credit unions or building societies, life insurance companies and friendly societies, and companies (for example: shares, unclaimed wages, dividends, bonuses). Previously this information was available from The Commonwealth Treasury. 

Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
The Lost Members' Register is a central register of lost superannuation fund members and retirement savings account holders.

Australian Preservation Fund
Hosts the Australian Superannuation Industry's "Unclaimed Super Recovery" initiative.

Western Australian Resources
Unclaimed money from individuals, businesses and organisations headquartered in Western Australia.

Western Australian Government Gazette
The Register of Unclaimed Money appears in the Gazette each year since 1912 after July 31. The register lists the names of individuals businesses and organisations owed $100 or more as advised to the WA Department of Treasury and Finance by the holders of unclaimed money.

Western Australia Department of Treasury and Finance
The Unclaimed Money Act 1990 determines that details of unclaimed money held by Western Australian Government agencies or businesses headquartered in Western Australia are lodged with the Western Australia Department of Treasury and Finance.

In Western Australia contact the executor of the will or the Public Trustee.

Generally each State's Treasury or Public Trustee administers unclaimed money.

Overseas
Investigating unclaimed moneys in countries other than Australia varies according to the country's legislation and government. There are many useful government directories at the State Library to assist you find the relevant country's government offices. The most frequently used is the Europa World Year Book.

Agents to Assist Locate Unclaimed Money
Typically these agents do not advertise their business but use the government unclaimed money registers to obtain clients. Contact is made usually by letter from these agents advising those on the registers of their entitlements. Fees for the service vary widely from agent to agent. Information on the role of investigators and agents is available from the Western Australian Treasury website.
