Western Australian Music

Western Australia's musical heritage is well represented in the State Library collections. The collections contain sound recordings, printed sheet music, books, serials, and newspapers, with musical themes. A copy of all Western Australian published music is lodged with the State Library under legal deposit provisions.

The Western Australian sheet music collection consists of  34 songs which have been collected across the years and are encapsulated in acid free containers to preserve them for future historians.  There are patriotic songs from the turn of the century through to songs written to celebrate more recent events in Perth's history, such as the Commonwealth Games and the opening of the Narrows Bridge. 

A collection of over 3,000 sound recordings on compact disc, vinyl and cassette represents Western Australia's musical heritage.  The collection contains all musical genres from the blues of Dave Hole to the orchestral music of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
