Aboriginal Women continued
Photographs of Aboriginal women may be grouped in the same way as the images of their white sisters.
Especially, the images witness to the importance of the labour of Aboriginal women, essential to the development of the pastoral industry. All spheres of economic activity - the shearing shed, the garden, the house, caring for children, etcetera - used the cheap labour of Aboriginal women. But, where are the sportswomen, the artists, the writers and teachers? Also noticeable by their absence are urban Aboriginal women. The question is, were these photographs not taken or have they failed to find their way into the collection of the Battye Library?
