“Long, long ago when the universe was newly created, there were times when special things could happen.”

Embark on a journey into the heart of First Nations storytelling in this exhibition of picture book artwork by acclaimed author and illustrator, Helen Milroy.  With vivid colours and intricate detail, Crow Baby tells the story of Daisy Crow, born of two spirits – one crow, and one human, who must live between two worlds and, ultimately, make a difficult decision to save both of her families.

Helen Milroy’s stunning illustrations from her newly released picture book, Crow Baby (Fremantle Press, 2023), are displayed alongside draft materials, in this exhibition curated for families.

Helen Milroy AM is a descendant of the Palyku people of the Pilbara region of Western Australia. She has written and illustrated over a dozen books for children.  Her children’s books, Wombat, Mudlark and Other Stories (Fremantle Press, 2019) and Owl and Star (Fremantle Press 2022) were shortlisted for the 2020 and 2022 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards, respectively.
