Government Archival Records

There are many documents held by the State Records Office which may be useful in locating the names of people. Those which have been found have been listed in subject groupings. However, there may be others which could be located through Archive Notes, the Series Registration System, or online through the State Records Office Catalogue.

Where possible the item or series has been linked to the appropriate Catalogue record. Where the item or series has not been linked it means that they are not yet on Catalogue and can only be found in an Archive Note or in the Series Registration System. Except when on microfilm or digitised, all archival records have to be ordered so they can be viewed in the Leah Jane Cohen Reading Room. The State Records Office maintains a register of records on microfilm. Some records will be restricted and this will show up on the record listing (either hard copy or online).

Government archival records found to contain information on people have been listed under 110 different subject headings, which have been grouped into subject listings: A-C , D-J , K-O , P-S, & T-Z. Check these subject listings for any subjects which lie within those alphabetical ranges.

Please note that some subject headings found in Government Archival Records can also be found under Private Archives, as some institutions or individuals may have records on the same subject.
