General Serials

As well as the specialist serials already described there are other useful sources for locating information on people. Also check the various town newsletters, mining serials (especially the early ones), Rotary Club/Apex type serials, serials of lodges (such as Freemasons, Buffaloes etc.), annual reports of companies and government agencies, etc. This list is not comprehensive and other serials exist which may be of interest. These can be located by using the online catalogue. Classes of serials which may yield information are:

Social Serials

For example: the Western Australian Railway Institute Magazine and its predecessors (380 WES) , Newspaper House News (070 NEW) , The Police News (360 POL), The Listening Post (360 LIS).

Sporting Serials

For example: the Football Budget (790 FOO), Western Australian Cricket Association Yearbook (796 WES), Western Australian Racing Calendar (790 WES and 790.5 RAC).

Church Serials

For example: the WA Baptist Monthly (280 WAB), West Australian Church News (283.9411 WES), WA Church of England Magazine (280 WES) and its successors, The Presbyterian: organ of the Presbyterian Church in Western Australia (280 WAB) and its successors, Western Congregationalist (280 WES), The Western Methodist (Q287.109 WES).

Farming Serials

For example: Elders Weekly (Q630 ELD), Dalgety's Review (381.41 DAL), Pastoralist and Grazier (Q630 PAS).

Hospitality serials

For example: Licensed Retailer (Q641.2 LIC), Hotel Review of WA (640 HOT), Western Liquor Guide (Q641.2 WES).

Occupational Serials

Serials relating to particular occupations such as The Architect (720.9941 ARC), JP of WA (340 JPW), Brief (340 BRI), The Broadcaster (620 BRO).

Serials Listing Local Government Employees and Public Servants

For example The Municipal and Road Board Gazette (350 MUN), Local Government Journal (350 MUN), Civil Service Journal (350 CIV).

Serials Listing People on Charges or Bankrupt

For example: Dun’s Gazette (Q343.94107 DUN) and its successors, Dun’s Writ and Summons List (Q343.94107 DUN), The Writ List (Q347.94107 WRI). These serials are restricted and permission must be obtained from the publisher to view them.
